Looking for a Creative High Party #7

My creative high this week came either from the necklace I shared yesterday or this necklace stand.

I think these old potato mashers are so cool and while I like all the ideas Sue Whitney has shared in Junkmarket Style, wanted to come up with my own idea.

The color inspiration came from the wonderfully old handle where paint had been smoothed away from use in a few spots.

The old fabric measuring tape is one of my MIL's that she had since the beginning of her marriage. It is old, fragile, and very stained.

I love, love, love how it turned out and looks. BUT...it doesn't at all work in my bedroom or bathrooms. I tried. My colors are so all wrong for it. I moved it around in many different place. Nope it definitely doesn't work.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaugh! So it sits in my basement craft area right now.

Last weeks links:

Chris from Pick Up Some Creativity shows us how to make this beautiful doll quilt but what melted me was her note to her daughters at the end of her post.

Missy from Marvelously Messy shares this gorgeous bench from 1875. She also awarded me a blogger awarded. I have another award I received over vacation too. I will be sharing them tomorrow!

This weeks winner is Megan from Fowl Single File for her absolutely adorable Independent Whales shirts. Not only are the whales adorable, but she has wonderful arguments why they can be symbols of patriotism.

The Rules:

1. Link to your specific post, not the main page of your blog. Link to something you made that shows off your creative genius; something that gave you a creative high kind of like the endorphin rush that runners talk about. It can be an old post or a new post but it needs to be something you made.

2. Give your entry a descriptive title.

3. Use my button to link back to the party or add a text link in your post.

4. I can't accept links to etsy shops or online stores but I will accept parties and give-a-ways.

5. By entering your link, you are giving me permission to use any part of your post including pictures in a spotlight at Those Northern Skies (appropriate credit and links will be given to you and your blog of course).

The Prizes:

1. Every Friday at the next party, I will highlight my favorite posts from the previous week.

2. My favorite entrant of the week will win an advertisement in my sidebar free of charge for one month (four weeks). If you do not have a shop, I can put your blog button up or if you would rather I can put up a button for your favorite charity.

3. In addition, for those who make a project inspired by one of my projects or one of my tutorials, I will pick one winner a month and they will get to keep an advertisement in my sidebar for two months. Plus all inspired entrants will be part of a featured post at the end of the month.

Looking for a Creative High: Party #6

You may notice that the past several parties feature kid's crafts!! Between vacation, VBS, guests, and photo shoots, I've had no time for my own crafting!!

This weeks high is tops. These tops are super duper easy to make.

Supplies

shooter marble
old cd
drink bottle lid
paper
markers
white glue or glue stick
heavy duty adhesive or hot glue

Instructions

Glue the shooter marble in the middle of the hole in your cd on the bottom side of the disk.

Use a cd as a template to cut out your paper.

Decorate the paper in bright colors so it looks great spinning.

Use the white glue or glue stick to glue the paper to the top of the disk.

Glue the bottle cap in the middle top to make a handle for your top.

Spin away!!

These tops are super easy to spin and spin for a long time!!

Now for the Party!!

Last week's party had thirteen entries. There were some super creative ideas. The sheer imagination of the entry by Ann at Make the Best of Things blew me away. She made a washer necklace for her teenaged grandson and presented in a box with a story - a gift of imagination.

  1. Link to your specific post, not the main page of your blog. Those Creative Highs - Last Week's Winner

YIKES - Make that this week's winner!!

I didn't mean to do that but oh, well - I think we will stick to it and you can just right it off as post-holiday confusion.

I am sorry - but I think due to the business of this week I am just going to quick post the winner today. However, don't be surprised if despite my business you see me commenting a fair amount. I have hundreds of pictures to work up for two different jobs and will be working up VBS pictures every night.

I burn out if I don't take an occasional break - and my break is usually to stop and peek at a few blogs.

And now
- this weeks winner!!-

Ann repainted this trunk last summer.

I love the colors and what I like even more is how it looks in her room and how it picks up the colors in her paintings.

 BTW aren't her paintings gorgeous!!?

Now for last week's winner. I am really loving this

Pedestal Bowl

Here it is along with the photo of the inspiration! Cool, huh?

Looking for a Creative High Party #3

We had some awesome entrants this week. Here are some that I thought especially cool.

Andrea from A Train to Crazy is making some fabulous clothes for the new baby boy she will have soon (soon is relative when you aren't the one expecting). :)

I am sure he will be the best dressed little man for miles around!!

Chris from Pickup Some Creativity made the most adorable coordinating dresses for her little girls.

I was particularly impressed by the fact that the littlest one's dress was created by using another dress as a pattern. I am not quite that advanced yet!!

Suzanne from Just Another Hangup made Gladys the owl some new friends.  I am particularly tickled by Mandy.

Isn't Mandy pretty? I love the colors on her!!

Anji from Starking Crafty Party Ideas made her kids the cutest Alice in Wonderland costumes.  A peek at the Mad Hatter.
Now you must really go to her site and check out her kids dressed up they were adorable!!

Despite all the above fabulous entrants the winner is Missy from Marvelously Messy. Her craft is something I've never heard of, unique and slightly strange but very, very cool. It is called Dorodango.

This beautiful, highly polished sphere is made from common dirt from her  yard!!

Father's Day Gift and Looking for a Creative High Party #2

One of my creative highs this week was finishing a gift for hubby for Father's Day. I saw this wooden shield at GW for two bucks. I almost passed it over and then I thought I could paint it and put our monogram on it.

But it occurred to me that monograms aren't really us, so I decided to stencil the white tree of Gondor (from Lord of the Rings for the non-initiated) onto the shield. I liked that someone had already hacked away at the shield so it looks as if it has seen some use.

The hardware is made of washers and shanked buttons glued together and spray painted silver. I am not completely satisfied with the stars but these will do until I can find better gems to use.

I thought the paint would be sufficient to cover the snake. I was wrong. If you look closely you can still see it. I should have sanded before I painted.

    Look at These Creative Highs!!

My first party was exactly what I expected, small!! So this week everyone gets a feature.

Maridith from Strictly Homemade submitted her dressing-up trick for her great-grandmother's rocking chair.

The patience she showed by hand-pinning all those tucks before she sewed floors me.

Chris from Pickup Some Creativity shares hot to make simple non-slip bows for all those adorable little girls in your life.

My girls have gobs of hair - yesterday I photographed a little girl like Chris's makes me wish mine weren't so big!!

Heather from Storing Up My Treasures shares how she revamped this thrift store candle sconce.

I really like the there and gone again feel of the stencil work she did.

Suzanne from Just Another Hang Up made adorable Gladys the Owl.

Check out the frazzled Gladys sketch Suzanne made before she designed this pillow. Too cute!!

Linda from Coastal Charm shares her light and airy message bottles.

Coastal/Ocean/Beach inspired decor is popular and I understand why!! Who doesn't want to live by or at least keep a constant reminder around of the kicked back relaxation of the sea?

This weeks winner is Maridith from Strictly Homemade!! Don't forget to link up next week!!
