superheroes

SB has a friend at church who shares my first name. A week from this Saturday, she will have a fourth birthday party. SB has been invited to attend.

Last night I made this superhero cape for her gift. I appliquéd the monogram on with wool felt. The cape is an old skirt (after making this last night I decided I would never do it any other way - an old skirt works perfectly).

Stinkerbell doesn't know it but she will get one for her fourth birthday at the end of the month.

this is how I really feel about superheroes

When the house fell asleep
There was always a light
And it fell from the page to the eyes
Of an American boy

In a storybook land
I could dream what I read
When it went to my head I'd see
I wanna be a hero

But the practical side
Said the question was still
When you grow up what will you be?
I wanna be a hero

Hero
It's a nice-boy notion that the real world's gonna destroy
You know
It's a Marvel comic book Saturday matinée fairytale, boy

Growing older you'll find
That illusions are bought
And the idol you thought you'd be
Was just another zero

I wanna be a hero

Heroes died when the squealers bought 'em off
Died when the dealers got 'em off
Welcome to the "in it for the money as an idol" show

When they ain't as big as life
When they ditch their second wife
Where's the boy to go?

Gotta be a hero

Hero
It's a nice-boy notion that the real world's gonna destroy
You know
It's a Marvel comic book Saturday matinée fairytale, boy

When the house fell asleep
From a book I was led
To a light that I never knew
I wanna be your hero

And he spoke to my heart
From the moment I prayed
Here's a pattern I made for you
I wanna be your hero

Steve Taylor from his album Meltdown...a very poignant song.

Cute pictures, you must have such a wonderful collection for your girls to look through when they're older. Wonderful, wonderful memories.

One of hubby's songs of the moment is Land of Confusion originally by Genesis, he's been playing it today. Your superhero references reminded me...

    Superman where are you now
    Everything's gone wrong somehow
The men of steel, men of power
Are losing control by the hour.

    This is the time
    This is the place
So we look for the future
But there's not much love to go round
Tell me why, this is a land of confusion.

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in.
