a throw back to my home coming post

My Mom is coming for a visit. I will pick her up tonight at a meeting point about half-way between where my parent's live and here. I made her a little memory gift from little treasures from my trip to Kansas.

I made this for my Mom as a memento of her parents. The photograph is of my grandparents holding my mother on the day of her baptism. The cross and the broach are from my grandmother's jewelry. The doily is one she crocheted. The button heart is one grandma made (I have two more of those wonderful things). The embroidery is mine. The colors definitely reflect on Grandma's tastes (pink and purple). I used fabric yo-yos because I remember a yo-yo doll Grandma had. The frame is thrifted.

This is the first time I've done anything like this and it is far from perfect but I am satisfied with it as a first effort.

I am in a slight quandary regarding myself. I simply cannot over-embellish. I like heavily embellished collages but when I work on my own I feel the need to create breathing space.

I also posted another embroidery on my craft blog.

I never know when to stop. I over embellish everything.

  6. Hi Me, I am so behind here and I really want to read through your homecoming blogs without children at my elbow -- but I do want to tell you that I tagged you for an award, the details are over on my blog.

    Blessings, Krina

What sweet gidt--she will be very blessed by it. Have a great visit.

There is a differnece between the style we like and what we create. There are many artistic styles I love and I am finally learning that those styles are not that which God gave me. I may enjoy them as much as I like but that does not mean that my own creations will reflect those styles.

  10. That is a lovely gift, obviously thoughtful! I have a shadow box frame someone gave me for a gift years ago now and I can't figure out what to do with it. Something like this might be nice.

Thanks for sharing and enjoy your visit with your mom!

Yes Me Loved it absolutely. Thank you and thanks for the wonderful time. I always am so torn when I leave you. I hate to leave you, C & K, but I also am anxious to get back to my own home. Although I get home and I wish I were back there. At least if it were not for your D I would. Love NLM
