gallery

My sister works at a library that does art shows. She got me a show and when I said I wasn't sure I could pay to have enough works framed she said that she and her husband would help. I guess she believes in me.

I am hoping to assemble ten 8x10's (a terrible aspect ratio - ugh - so clumsy) and 5 5X7's. She showed them my floral/nature stuff so that is what this show is about. I am sticking to black and white and narrow DOF since that is what I am about. I am trying to steer clear of my more abstract wanderings and focus on the kind of macro shots with magic bokeh that I think is my strength.

I also decided to throw in five bug shots cause I love buggy things.

If you are so inclined you can see the gallery here. Please give me feedback on what you would want to see. :)

stuff, stuff, and more stuff

I've been busy creating just for my sake - I am giving myself til the first and then it is back to the norm.

This clipboard is called "Great Expectations" (gee - imagine that)...the quote says: "I took her hand in mine, and we went out of the ruined place; and, as the morning mists had risen long ago when I first left the forge, so, the evening mists were rising now, and in all the broad expanse of tranquil light they showed to me, I saw no shadow of another parting from her."

The photos are sweet - all featuring flowers. I love the one on the top right - it has an old shed and hollyhocks and a little girl - reminds me of my maternal great-grandmother's place - the old 'garage' and the hollyhocks.

The lower-left has a image of a seventeen year cicada. The mirror came out of an old accessories suitcase (I bought at Goodwill recently) - it was one that had elastic straps to hold a mirror (which had no frame on it).

This clipboard is called Doll - the middle photo had the name Doll scribbled on the top. The top photo is humorous to me - the images in the wall are apparently old fashion images (say Godey's or something).

I ripped a definition of Doll into the collage - the definition reads: "a toy in human form"

I love the background on this one - it is painted lace - I painted the clipboard and then laid the lace on it and painted it down in several colors and then pulled the lace off.

I am very happy with this one in spite of the mishap - I accidently spilled half a bottle of glue on it. I used a wet sponge brush and sponged, and sponged, and sponged away. The tea bag says "Fortune favors the brave" I have an old book lining with some quotes on it that I want to slip into the library card pouch when it dries.

These silhouettes of the girls are for my MIL for Mother's Day. I had fun with them. I love the frames - I would have not distressed them except one of them had some sort of green oxidation going on so I painted and sanded...(thrift store frames - what else do you do?)

BTW anybody want a clipboard? I will trade you for something - (I would love dozens and dozens of cardboard egg cartons (I am in the midst of a massive paper mache project) and I can always do clip boards or beads or...let me know...

I am also willing to give away - Intelligent Design or I'll Fly Away which you can see here: Design - is the big Sun and Fly Away has a big musical bird.

Wendy has snagged 'I'll Fly Away; and Christine has requested 'Great Expectations'

ever feel like humpty dumpty

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now [are ye] light in the Lord: walk as children of light. Ephesians 5:8

This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine.
This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine.
This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine,
Every day, every day,
Every day, every day,
Gonna let my little light shine.

On Monday, he gave me the gift of love;
On Tuesday, peace came from above.
On Wednesday told me to have more faith;
On Thursday, gave me a little more grace.
On Friday, told me to watch and pray
On Saturday, told me just what to say,
On Sunday, gave power divine
Just to let my little light shine. (oh)

BTW for some reason while I don't usually stage photos the theme in these two photos has been used by me before: http://www.pbase.com/marybell/image/64492163

playing in the dark, something sorta cajun, art, unfolding light

Last night I took the girls out at about 5:30 and we played in the yard with flashlights. It was mildly chilly but not bad. They had fun - I experimented with taking photos in the dark without a flash - using the flashlights as spotlights. Perhaps not an experiment that interests everyone but I kind of liked the results.

Last night I made another one of my cobbled together recipes. About five years ago I decided we were eating way to much Tex-Mex and American-Italian style dishes and that we needed something different. Hubby doesn't like most southern style dishes but I decided to cobble something together that we might enjoy - after a great deal of experimenting. This is what I came up with.

M's Cajun Dish

2 cans of tomato sauce
2 cans of diced tomatoes
3 beef bouillon cubes
1/2 - 1 tsp. hot pepper sauce
2 tsp. seafood seasoning
3 cloves of garlic
1/4-1/2 tsp. cayenne
Beef Kielbasa (sausage)
Shrimp

Mix everything but the shrimp and the sausage in a crock pot ). Simmer. Slice sausage up into thin slices add to sauce about an hour before serving). Add shrimp 20 minutes before serving (however many you want). Serve over pasta.

One of the nice things about this time of year is that our local grocery stores will sell their frozen shrimp bags two for one. I will get six of this dish out of the two bags. It is nice to be able to serve shrimp and not feel like you are breaking the bank.

Speaking of breaking the bank. I've recently been reading a lot on frugal living as a sort of a personal refresher course. When reading about saving energy, not one article has mentioned crockpots. Using a crockpot as opposed to an oven or a stove can be a great deal cheaper plus it saves time. I've modified a lot of conventional recipes to use a crock as a way to keep it warm until hubby comes home. His arrival is sporadic and I like to have hot food ready as soon as he is and the crock is an excellent tool.

Here is a neat art site that makes me want to go further in my efforts - I found it at the 'inaminuteago' blog. http://www.reneeharris.net/index.html

I was reading Psalm 119 this morning. Almost everyone who has memorized verses or learned songs in Sunday School is familiar with vs 105 "Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." but I was startled by vs 130 which seems a true companion to vs 105 and a lovely and haunting image "The unfolding of Your Words gives light."

The idea of unfolding is beautiful - what tremendous openess and honesty when something is unfolded - vulnerability. And here is a thought - is God's heart so tender to us that it is vulnerable?
