heirloom hangers, jewelry, and bedrooms

Way back near the beginning of January, I mentioned a project that I was anxious to share with you. Here it is. Previous to these organizers, my jewelry was in my nightstand in a silverware tray. Unfortunately as I made a few unusual pieces and picked up a few larger pieces, my tray was a mess.

I had toyed with the picture frame with chicken wire idea but never quite saw it for us. Then I saw this idea on Pinterest and knew that I had my answer. The hangers are ones that I had on hand from previous thrifting adventures. I had the eyelet screws on hand too. So these were another zero cost project.

The tassel doll is a gift from a fellow blogger from down-under.

The hanger below is special. My parents recently passed it on to me. Stamped on the neck is the name of a down-town Chicago menswear store. My paternal grandfather was a minister and my Dad remembers going with his father to purchase a suit at that store. My Dad told me that grandpa always kept his 'Sunday' preaching suit on this hanger. I wanted to do something special with it and using it for my scarves is perfect because the repurpose is not damaging it in anyway. I did have to buy the shower curtain rings so it wasn't a completely free project.

The rosary is one I found in college. I bought an "old man's" coat at the thrift store. When I got home and reached into the pocket, I found the rosary.

Isn't the globe cool. It  is one I found at the thrift store years ago. It has an engraved plaque that is from a hospital and was given for 15 years of service.

I made these jewelry jars late last year but quickly realized they weren't going to hold enough jewelry. For the moment, I will continue to use them. The doll is one that my Mom made for me when I was young.

The little stuff lamb was given me by K. She gave it to me once when I was sick and she said she wanted it to remind me that she was praying for me. The cross-stitch, which isn't very clear in this photo, is a sweet little spring poem sampler that my Mom made me for college graduation.

The lower photo on the left is Tim's highschool photo. The picture above it and the one of me are paintings done by a friend of mine. The embroidery below the painting of me is a Home-Sweet-Home sampler that I wrote more about here. My Mom thinks that it is at least sixty years old.

The quilted wall-hanging is by my maternal grandmother.

The little embroidered/sewn pocket is one C made me a couple of years ago.

The old binoculars case has a pair of binoculars from Tim's paternal grandfather. He used to take it to San Diego Padres games. Tim remembers going to games with his grandfather and using it. We have three or four pairs of binoculars and this pair is definitely the best.

Yes that is a Mr. Potato Head Darth Vader on Tim's night stand. You can also see one of the globe lamps I made on his night stand.

The Asian painting above his nightstand is a very restful mountain scene painted on bamboo. I bought it at a thrift store many, many moons ago.

The painting above our bed is a reproduction of Autumn Grasses in Moonlight by Shibata Zeshin. I found it at Goodwill about 5 years ago in an extremely tacky frame. If you look carefully, you can see a random marker mark on it. It reeked of cigarette smoke but I loved it and it is a high quality print, so I bought it for a couple dollars and had it re-framed. I love the frame it is in and love lying on my bed looking at it.

So there is my latest stash-busting projects and a peek at my eclectic world and bedroom.

  2. The hangers are a great way to organize! I have to show them to my daughter as we were just trying to make some sort of frame while she was home. This is a much better idea! You are so lucky to have all of those family heirlooms to remember loved ones and good times!

  4. Oh, I LOVE this!
And I need motivation - our bedroom is in sad shape since I tossed everything in there just before Christmas, which I now realize was a loooong time ago.
