Circus World, Memorial Day Weekend, and What We Did (an exceptionally long photo essay)

My parents celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary in March (guess who turns forty in November). Unfortunately, because my siblings and I are rather far apart and some of them have a hard time getting time from work, we are seldom all four of us together with Mom and Dad. So my sister A decided to put together a trip, after school was out so that we could all celebrate together.

During our first day in Wisconsin Dells, we left the Dells and went to nearby Baraboo to the Circus World Museum.

We arrived just before the big top show.

The show had everything: A Ringmaster (and a girl doing a cartwheel).

Everyone was engrossed.

The show had everything: A Girl Performing with Hula Hoops (and a dog show which I do not share here).

Mom and Dad look like they enjoyed the show.

The show had everything: Horse Performers (and a balancing act which I do not share here)

The show had everything: The Girl on A Flying Trapeze.

C is terrified that the clown act is going to use real fire on the volunteer.

The show had everything: An Elephant Act.

K and cousin G ride on Tiny Bubbles.

We check out circus memorabilia.

The kids play with interactive exhibits.

They even get to play on an old-fashioned merry-go-round.

Check out the fun house mirror.

I took tons of pictures of the carvings on the large collection of old wagons at the museum.

There was also an old carousel.

The slide of death across the Baraboo river.

We watched a presentation of unusual circus instruments (it was really really cool).

The girls took turns dressing up at the dress-up station. Here C is a master of ceremonies.

My siblings and parents (and me).,

  1. Gosh I love the circus. I love your girls faces even more though. When I was a kid my Grandparents would take me to Ringling bros. every time they came to town.
