Circus World, Memorial Day Weekend, and What We Did (an exceptionally long photo essay)

My parents celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary in March (guess who turns forty in November). Unfortunately, because my siblings and I are rather far apart and some of them have a hard time getting time from work, we are seldom all four of us together with Mom and Dad. So my sister A decided to put together a trip, after school was out so that we could all celebrate together.

During our first day in Wisconsin Dells, we left the Dells and went to nearby Baraboo to the Circus World Museum.

We arrived just before the big top show.

The show had everything: A Ringmaster (and a girl doing a cartwheel).

Everyone was engrossed.

The show had everything: A Girl Performing with Hula Hoops (and a dog show which I do not share here).

Mom and Dad look like they enjoyed the show.

The show had everything: Horse Performers (and a balancing act which I do not share here)

The show had everything: The Girl on A Flying Trapeze.

C is terrified that the clown act is going to use real fire on the volunteer.

The show had everything: An Elephant Act.

K and cousin G ride on Tiny Bubbles.

We check out circus memorabilia.

The kids play with interactive exhibits.

They even get to play on an old-fashioned merry-go-round.

Check out the fun house mirror.

I took tons of pictures of the carvings on the large collection of old wagons at the museum.

There was also an old carousel.

The slide of death across the Baraboo river.

We watched a presentation of unusual circus instruments (it was really really cool).

The girls took turns dressing up at the dress-up station. Here C is a master of ceremonies.

My siblings and parents (and me).,

  1. Gosh I love the circus. I love your girls faces even more though. When I was a kid my Grandparents would take me to Ringling bros. every time they came to town.

  2. WOW, great family get together. Looks like everyone had a great time.

Thanks so much for dropping by and visiting me at Pittypat Paperie. Come again anytime Ü

  3. Beautiful candid shots of the girls so engrossed in the circus! I'm sure many beautiful memories were made that day.

  4. I just love the two profile photo or your Dad and Mom. I think that you really caught their inner spirit. UP

  5. Hey! I've been there!
    Beautiful pictures.

  6. How fun. Family really is everything.

  7. Lovely photo essay. Can you believe I have never been to a circus. We are planning to go this summer! Can't wait!

  8. Gawd, you take some incredible pictures of faces. I just love them. Also, the crackled paint on the carousel horse. That's just gorgeous.

  9. What a fun family trip!! Everyone looks like they had a great time, love the looks on the kiddos faces ♥ Love ALL your photos

  10. Such sweet photos Melissa. I've said it before but you take amazing photos of your girls. You should do a photo how-to sometime and share some of those secrets of yours, yes? I would love that!
