I have this old pineapple finial that needed to be prettied up (yes I was the one that did that horrible paint thing to her).
So I spray painted her black and silver-leafed her.
Do you want to know something? The base color makes a difference to the silver leaf. The bowling ball was a very dark red. It is more subdued than the pineapple which is black. I am having fun with the leaf. I think I have enough left for one more small project.
Right now the finial stands on a pedestal (made from an old galvanized lard bucket) next to the gazing ball.
I will be sharing this at:
Debbiedoos Before and After Party
I like it! how clever to paint it black first, it shows a little through and gives it more dimention. Very nice.
ReplyDeletethat is sweet! love the silver paint you used.
ReplyDeletethanks for your nice comments on my blog :)
and yes, i totally got the crow at DT!!! it's by all the Halloween stuff :) get one before they are gone!
I can see this as a finial for a three-legged trellis in the garden, with morning glory vines growing and blooming on it. I have one with an old blue glass insulator on the top, that I bought at a flea market this summer. Can't wait to use it next year! You see where my mind goes...always to the garden. :-)
ReplyDeleteSplendid! I bet this and the ball make a fine pair :)
ReplyDeleteCool, really makes the pineapple pop:) Thanks Melissa for your input, I laughed out loud...that is why I like you:) You are honest!
ReplyDeleteAh! How nice is that finial now! I have never tried silver or gold leaving...maybe it is time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog and commenting.
Come by again soon.
Looks great. I never thought that the base color would affect the color of the silver leaf, good to know! Isn't silver leaf so much fun to work with! Can't wait to see what you do for your next small project :)

Oh I need some of the silver leaf stuff. This looks so beautiful, big improvement! Great job!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks awesome! The color looks perfect
ReplyDeletesilver leaf sounds interesting but i don't think we have it here.
ReplyDeleteThis is far from traditional gazing balls! I've seen gazing balls used as a centerpiece for garden spinner. This site have samples.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great Melissa. I am thinking about silver leafing two large mirrors but have never done it. I love pineapple objects. hugs♥O
ReplyDeleteSuper pretty, I love that classic pineapple shape, too. You gave it a whole new life.
ReplyDeleteNice and I bet it looks good with the gazing ball. I got to get me some old bowling balls, my hubby keeps accidentally breaking the glass ones on my deck or in my garden.
ReplyDeleteHave fun leafing!
Linda
