dance recital

Last night was the girl's dance recital. First, my disclaimer. I am not into extra-curricular classes music, dance, or otherwise. It is just not my style. However, when a college student from church said she was teaching a dance class this summer and she had a mission statement: Worship God with appropriate dance moves and costumes. Learn to dance or improve technique, have fun, build friendships.

And she had a verse "Let them praise His Name with dancing." Psalm 149:3

I decided that the girls would enjoy it and I would like to support her efforts.

Last night was the recital. About mid-summer, I volunteered to photograph the dancers individually and as a class as I know that is a studio MO.

So I did. It was hectic and I have a lot to learn but it did go rather smoothly all things considered.

The woman you see above is their teacher. She is a dynamic, petite, college student, who managed to put together two dances for each class to perform at the recital. The kids only had ten classes to learn them. They did remarkably well.

The class was to teach ballet, lyrical, and jazz. The two images below were of the all ages segment at the end where she had them perform a sign language portion. As you can tell, Stinkerbell was pretty much starstruck. She woke up from her nap that afternoon complaining of a headache and she was really out of it for the entire recital.

For the ballet section the girls (who were in the same age-group class) performed Stephen Curtis Chapman's song Cinderella (guaranteed to make you weepy).

She spins and she sways to whatever song plays,
Without a care in the world.
And I'm sittin' here wearin' the weight of the world on my shoulders.
It's been a long day and there's still work to do,
She's pulling at me saying "Dad I need you!
There's a ball at the castle and I've been invited and I need to practice my dancin'"
"Oh please, daddy, please!"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song,
Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of the dress
She says "Dad, the prom is just one week away,
And I need to practice my dancin'"
"Oh please, daddy, please!"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song,
Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone
She will be gone.

Well, she came home today
With a ring on her hand
Just glowin' and tellin' us all they had planned
She says "Dad, the wedding's still six months away
but I need to practice my dancin'"
"Oh please, daddy please!"

So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't wanna miss even one song,
(even one song)
Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

Once again, I wish I could share the photos of the other girls - some of the photos look quite darling but...

I took over three-hundred photos and I've got loads of pictures to work-up yet.

For those who are interested, I replied to many of the comments about the mouse in the comments about the mouse.

  4. I'm with you on the extra-cuuricular dance etc ... but if we had that college student of yours, I'd be in. Our girls have signed songs and done a worship dance here, but with no formal, ongoing class.

"Cinderella" was beautiful. You're girls are so lovely.

  6. Beautiful pictures and girls. There is just something about the black and white photos that makes them stand out.

Thanks for letting us know about the problem with our blog. My hubby thinks he has the problem fixed. If you get a minute could you stop by and let us know if it is better?

    Thanks again, Laurie

  8. How lovely they look.

I believe if you are dancing to the Lord and not for the world, dance can be a ministry as much as singing or playing instruments.
