created with a purpose
When I saw the butterfly this morning, the shadow of the house still extended to where it rested. By the time I returned outside, the sun had climbed high enough to shine on the butterfly so I knew my time was short.
What struck me was the extent of the damage on the butterfly’s wing. I wondered if it would still be able to fly. After allowing me a few shots, he flew away.
I think it is a good reminder. God made us who we are. We can cripple ourselves through our own bad decisions or we can be crippled by the bad decisions of others. It matters little who or what hurts us, we are still God’s and we are still created with a purpose. God meant for us to fly and if we rely on Him, we can.
For my cousin Kira.

Thank you daughter of mine. I think that I will share it with her Dad. What a beautiful thought.
ReplyDeleteThis reminded me of a great moment when time slowed down momentarily for me in October 1997. I was sitting on the grass of the National Mall in Washington D.C. at a Promise Keepers event with about a million other guys. As we listened intently to a pastor exhort us to live for Christ, a lone monarch butterfly caught my eye as it winged above the crowd on its way south. It reminded me of the intense migration of the monarchs across the Gulf to Mexico. Here was a potent reminder that we are pilgrims too, following His purpose.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. A perfect reminder.
ReplyDeleteI saw one butterfly the other day just flitting here and there...as if it was looking for a place to rest. I like your analogy here...we NEED to rest in Christ. Very spiritually potent post!
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly wasn't a monarch.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how those who are in touch with God, as a butterfly must surely be, can pick themselves up and continue on in spite of the storms.
ReplyDeletethis is such a beautiful reminder for us that we can fly if we but rely on God...
