more may baskets

these are made from crochet cotton dipped in glue and wrapped around a cone

DramaQueen made the one with the pink handle all by herself except for the dipping of the thread. She even made her own handle. I dipped the thread and removed the excess glue. The only thing I did besides the glue was wrap several rows of glued thread around the opening so that there would be something to hang the beads off.

Here is the one I made. I like DQ's better. We also wrapped a large balloon to make an Easter Egg but when I popped the balloon the thread collapsed. I remember my maternal grandma used to make baskets that way. I think she dipped her thread in sugar water.

this were made from thrift store doilies

Here is the tutorial for the flowered basket I posted earlier this week. I will write tutorials for these in the very near future.

  1. These are precious!

YEs, you use sugar water or starch to get it to hold the shape. My grandmother used both. Spray starch works pretty well.

  2. So nice to catch up on all of your posts. I love the May baskets and wreaths - all of your creative ventures are fun to see - but the May baskets are my favorites!

I hope we're out of the really cold weather for this year. I'm ready for spring and gardening!!

  4. Hey, I think *I* could even make one of those! Very nice.

In reply to your comment on my blog, our houses are really close together so you kindof have to be at least a little bit neighborly. :)
