Zipper Roses

I have these two zipper roses thanks to a wonderful elderly woman from Bible Study. H is in her mid-nineties and gave me a box full of sewing notions recently. In it were zippers.

This was made from two 22" Talon zippers that were unopened and originally cost 65 cents. They had weird brown marks on them so after I made the rose, I 'antiqued' it with instant coffee.

This was made from two zippers that she apparently took out of some article of clothing as many of the basting stitches were still in them.

These roses are quite large - the white one is about 3.5 inches in diameter and the red one is four inches in diameter.

make a really cool zipper necklace

The bracelet I made yesterday really got me jazzed and so I got out my old coat that has both zippers and buttons, carefully cut out the zipper (I am keeping the coat for shoveling the drive, winter walks, and the like), and made this!

I think I like this more than the bracelet.

I am sure more zipper things will be showing up here. Yesterday when I was at Bible Study (WOW) a 95-year-old lady (who for some reason thinks what I do is remarkable) gave me a box of old notions. She used to sew and she wanted to give them to someone who will use them. There are a few things that I am not sure what to do with. For instance, stocking supports.

I posted a tutorial at Suite101.

bracelets (or necklaces) from old zippers

An old zipper (this was from a sweater I fulled) makes a fun bracelet!! This is super-duper easy - it probably takes less than fifteen minutes to make.

C modeled this for me. On my wrist, it isn't nearly so loose. I am thinking that tomorrow, I am cutting the zipper out of my old coat and making myself a necklace.

I posted a tutorial at Suite101.
