These guys are easy to do. A little wheat and some permanent markers is all you really need.

handkerchief bunnies, angels, and purselets

You can find my tutorial for How to Make Handkerchief Bunnies at Suite101. BTW for those who like more detail it is an easy thing to use some washable glue or removable tape to add a cottonball for a tail and maybe some buttons for eyes.






These little purselets or pockets are perfect for little gift bags or for your little girl to carry her offering to Sunday School. You can find the tutorial How to Make Handkerchief Pockets at Suite101.



I think angels are as suitable for Easter as they are for Christmas. These angels can be a bit hard to figure out. I wrote a tutorial for Hanky Angels at Suite101 but it still may take a bit to get it.

The handkerchief below is sheer and made of some synthetic material. Very lovely but as I discovered super hard to work with.



The wonderful thing about all three of these projects is your handkerchiefs remain intact. No cutting or damage unless you aren't careful. The wire for the beaded angel wings and of course a thread and needle could damage more delicate or fragile handkerchiefs. BUT theoretically, you could dismantle these and find the handkerchiefs intact.

Easter chicks

We made Easter chicks yesterday. We've been making them for several years so this year I decided to mix it up and make them in springy pastels.


Don't you love how worn and faded this old Pyrex bowl is? I found it at Goodwill for 2 dollars.





These chicks are the ones we made the first year we made chicks. I did more of the work then because the girls were so small.



We made two baskets of chicks last year. One we gave to the neighbor boy and one we gave to our favorite manager at Dunn Bros because I always get free burlap coffee bean bags from her. I made the basket from an old burlap coffee bean bag. You can find my tutorial for the burlap basket at Suite101.



I still think these chicks rank high on the list of super-cute easy crafts. In fact, just this week, I found out that our neighbors and our friend at Dunn Bros. kept their baskets and chicks and are using them again this year.

These are fun to do with your kids. Especially if you've got a kid like C who loves to make charts - she made a diagram to keep track of the results and everything.

Easter Egg Geodes: food coloring, egg shells, hot water, minerals

The egg below used sea salt - just the generic table sea salt from the grocery store. I like how the solution soaked through the egg and grew crystals on the outside too.

Unfortunately, I lost the chart C made so I am not sure but I think the egg below used Borax.

The coolest eggs by far were these eggs which used Epsom salt. Tip: Epsom salt can be bought at Dollar Tree, for...you guessed it 1 dollar!!

The eggs (especially the Epsom salt eggs) were remarkably tough to break - but we had tremendous fun studying the crystals.

Oh, one tip. If you plan on making these start them several weeks in advance (unless you live in a really, really dry climate). It takes awhile for the mineral solution to evaporate.
