Silver Leaf Pineapple Finial

I am loving my silver leaf/mercury glass bowling ball/gazing ball. I still have some silver leaf left (and I really enjoy working with it) so I thought I would try something else.

I have this old pineapple finial that needed to be prettied up (yes I was the one that did that horrible paint thing to her).

So I spray painted her black and silver-leafed her.

Do you want to know something? The base color makes a difference to the silver leaf. The bowling ball was a very dark red. It is more subdued than the pineapple which is black. I am having fun with the leaf. I think I have enough left for one more small project.

Right now the finial stands on a pedestal (made from an old galvanized lard bucket) next to the gazing ball.

I will be sharing this at:

  1. I like it! how clever to paint it black first, it shows a little through and gives it more dimention. Very nice.

  3. I can see this as a finial for a three-legged trellis in the garden, with morning glory vines growing and blooming on it. I have one with an old blue glass insulator on the top, that I bought at a flea market this summer. Can't wait to use it next year! You see where my mind goes...always to the garden. :-)

  11. This is far from traditional gazing balls! I've seen gazing balls used as a centerpiece for garden spinner. This site have samples.

  14. Nice and I bet it looks good with the gazing ball. I got to get me some old bowling balls, my hubby keeps accidentally breaking the glass ones on my deck or in my garden.
    Have fun leafing!
