Looking for a Creative High Party

My creative high this week was a little craft save. I've made several of these bags out of old cargo pants. They are identical on both sides so they have loads of pockets and you can imagine the other side based on this one view. I always used neckties for the straps which I liked for many reasons but disliked because they were not washable. I loved the pockets and grungy feel of the cargo pants though.

Then I tried making a bag out of jeans - I lined it with an old skirt of mine. I loved the bag but could never settle on handles that worked and I liked and were washable.

Finally, I did the obvious. I just sewed a denim strap on. Because I made this bag a couple of years ago, I couldn't match the denim but it will still make a great library bag or project bag.

Yes the sewing is wonky. I have a very basic sewing machine and when I sew fabric that is too heavy, I sometimes have to wrestle with it.

Who had the highest high this week?

This weeks winner is Catie from Do Ah Diddy. She made a fabulous scarf that was inspired by Anthropologie but I think hers is better!!

The Rules
1. Link to your specific post, not the main page of your blog. Link to something you made that shows off your creative genius; something that gave you a creative high kind of like the endorphin rush that runners talk about. It can be an old post or a new post but it needs to be something you made.

2. Give your entry a descriptive title.

3. Use my button to link back to the party or add a text link in your post.

4. I can't accept links to etsy shops or online stores but I will accept parties and give-a-ways.

5. By entering your link, you are giving me permission to use any part of your post including pictures in a spotlight at Those Northern Skies (appropriate credit and links will be given to you and your blog of course).

The Prizes

1. Every Friday at the next party, I will highlight my favorite posts from the previous week.

2. My favorite entrant of the week will win an advertisement in my sidebar free of charge for one month (four weeks). If you do not have a shop, I can put your blog button up or if you would rather I can put up a button for your favorite charity.

3. In addition, for those who make a project inspired by one of my projects or one of my tutorials, I will pick one winner a month and they will get to keep an advertisement in my sidebar for two months. Plus all inspired entrants will be part of a featured post at the end of the month.

  1. Thanks for hosting. I always enjoy this party!

  2. That's a great bag. But then, I love all the bags you have done, esp the argyle sweater bag!
I just went thru a lot of your posts that I've missed lately and once again was so impressed at your photos. You are so talented!
And yes, you surely do look like your Mom! :)

  3. I really like the idea of plaid flannel with the denim. And I enjoy the stitching, I think it makes the inside. Thanks for hosting the par-tay.

  4. I love that there are so many pockets that were already there...I hate sewing pockets! I also love that it's made from recycled clothes! Great job.

  5. The bag looks great! I never know what to do with old jeans, especially when the legs are torn and we can't donate them.

  6. I think the bag looks great! I love the plaid lining - it reminds me of those lined hunter jeans.

  7. I love this bag! I am sure it is way more sturdy than anything you could purchase.

  8. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a nice comment.

I joined your linky party and added your button to my sidebar Ü

  9. Hi Melissa! Just wanted to let you know that I just awarded you the Versatile Blogger. Love your blog! :)

  10. Cool bag.. jeans bags are always cool..
(My highs this week were not all made by me.. although they were designed by me and definitely gave me a creative high!!)

  11. Great bag!.....I love using denim and recycling it into other useful things. I have made several denim quits and my 26 year old son has asked for another one, as his is wearing out!

  12. Happy happy jeans wearing, bag and paints! HAve a great start of the new week, Melissa. xx
