piano recital

The girls had their piano recital the Sunday before we left to fly out to California. I was proud of them. While they didn't perform flawlessly, they didn't let their mistakes rattle them and played their songs all the way through.

K often restarted phrases when she made a mistake but she still made it straight through her two numbers.

C was kind of funny. At home she pounds out her pieces loud and proud but with volume dynamics...at the recital she played very quietly but still maintained her dynamics.

The girls with Mary, their piano teacher. You couldn't find a more bubbly person or a less intimidating teacher but they still listen and strive to satisfy her.

Mary and her students. Several of the older boys were particularly good pianists. I hope the girls listened and were inspired. :)

We had a great time at Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon - I took lots of cool photos - that I hope to work on tonight. Yesterday, we arrived at Lake Tahoe. Now is time to relax and chill.

  2. I used to love going to my Katie's recitals. The boys have just not been interested in it the way she was, though. Your girls certainly looked beautiful; if they played half as beautifully as they looked, then it was great!

  4. We just got home & it was fun to catch up with your blog. Great photos of the flowers! I hope all is going well on your trip--remember there are always smiles and rainbows in blogland!
We didn't go to Sequoia--we were on a bus tour that included Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion Canyon, and Yosemite...plus numerous other places.

  5. Hooray for piano. We actually got ours out of storage over the weekend. It was so fun to hear my daughter play a few tunes she's memorized while we put together our remaining cabinets. :)

  7. I've always loved seeing children play in recitals. It strikes me how strong yet vulnerable they are as they learn the art of performance. Brings a tear to my eye everytime!
