I don't know how long it has been since Tim's Grandma Howard died. It has been quite a while. One time, on a visit back here, Tim's Mom gave us Viva's purse. I've always meant to alter it.
I finally did. It only took over five years. It was in very poor condition, it is just a cheap vinyl wallet from China.
I used caulk to transfer the photo of Red and Viva to the front of the purse. Then I covered it with scraps of wool from my stash and embellished it with ribbons and buttons from my stash.
Someday, I hope to put Grandma's compact back in her purse.
But it will have to wait. I am going to send the purse out round robin style to all of Tim's aunts and his Dad and see if they would write a little letter about Grandma to put in it or tuck in a copy of a photo.
What a way to turn an expensive wallet into a precious family heirloom! I love the idea of sending it round to collect photos or stories, too. You rock, my friend!
ReplyDeleteSo cool! I just love the sweet embellishments...and the even sweeter idea to send it around collecting memories!
ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation and a great idea to send it around for a note.
ReplyDeleteLove the addition of the photos.
ReplyDeleteOh wow. What a sweet thing to do!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet memento you have made!
ReplyDeleteYou have really created a true family heirloom - the transfer worked so well and the crochet lace is lovely. It will be treasured.
ReplyDeleteThe caulk transfer is really cool! I'm definitely going to have to google that one.
ReplyDeleteOh and you know what? If you do you send it around and get some stories, maybe you could then share some of those with us here. I'd love to read about Viva!
