Advent Candles

I know, it is a little bit late for most people to think about making their Advent Candles. I meant to make these sooner. I got away with making them late because I made them for classroom use for our co-op not for use on Sundays.

They are made of tin cans, coffee shop burlap bags, an old dictionary, old sheet music, hemp rope, holiday ribbon, Dollar Tree picks, Dollar Tree pillar candle and Walmart window candles.

I made the 'verse' labels by printing the verses on regular computer paper and then tearing them out. I crumpled them up and then uncrumpled them. I put them in a baking pan and poured very thick instant coffee on them and then took them out and placed them on clean rags to dry. I 'painted' some additional coffee on them by dribbling it on them with a spoon.

All of the candle holders have two verses on them except the Christ candle. I used verses from my article The Meaning of Advent.

The candles are battery operated LED candles. I am not sure I want a group of children handling real flames.

I wrapped the candles with some torn, old sheet music.

I am really loving how they turned out and out teacher wants me to make one for her family.

Am I the only one who shops the food aisles and health and beauty aisles of the store looking to see if the packaging would be fun to recycle?

I will be sharing this at:
