Decorator crabs are crabs who camouflage themselves by decorating their entire body with found objects. They find objects in their habitat that will help them blend in and attach them to their bodies..

Spider crab after decorating (source). |
You may be wondering why I am going on about natural history.
Simple. The girls are learning about camouflage. I thought it would be funny for them to have their own personal decorator crabs for their bedroom. So I made decorator crabs from cardboard (I am sorry but there are no instructions because I made them up as I went along) and spray painted them brown. Then I had the girls scavenge the floors of their rooms. We hot-glued their findings onto their crabs (PS I left the hot glue strings on the crabs - I thought it added to the authenticity). :)
Here are two crabs that will be perfectly at home in the girl's rooms. :)
I absolutely love these! What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteThey're so cute! Want.
ReplyDeleteI'm mentally storing that idea for my girls now. Lily's got a thing about making fancy decorated biscuits (cookies) first though.
