I found this darling at the thrift store on Monday for 49 cents. I love floral frogs so my thought was what cute frog.
I brought it up to the cash register and the clerk gave me an odd look and asked if I had a green bathroom. Uh?
She asked me what I was going to use it for. I said I was going to put flowers in it cause I thought it was a floral frog.
She thought it was a toothbrush holder.
When I got home, I immediately cut some pinks and put them in it and put a coaster underneath it. I had listened to the lady and felt the inside and it didn't feel sealed so I thought perhaps it would leak.
It does.
I am going to try to find a way to seal it because I like it for small flowers.

I would make a bouquet of knitting needle yo-yo flowers for it to hold.
Although, the pinks are perfect!
I think it's too pretty to be a toothbrush holder thinga-ma-gigy. I like how it looks with the little flowers. I hope you find something to seal it with. I don't know if hard as nails would work but they carry it in clear. It's like a glue but dries clear. Good luck finding something to make it water proof.

I read this but it doesn't say the name of the sealant: Unglazed pottery and ceramic vases can either be treated with waterproof sealant, or they can be fitted with a plastic liner. To waterproof your container, brush on five coats of sealant, allowing each layer to dry thoroughly before applying the next one.

Now I'm really curious what it was intended for if it's not a frog. I'm pretty sure it's not a toothbrush holder.

ReplyDeleteVery cute....have you considered sitting it in a tall cylinder...filled with 1" water?...or fill it with about 2" Elmers glue and just rotate it till the inside is covered with glue

I think it is adorable also. You can find a small container of sealant at a craft store, look where they have all the mosaic stuff. Or use a porcelain glaze. There is a spray one at Michael's. Just go outside and spray enough in the holes to be able to swirl it around. Make sure to let it get good and dry, of course.
