a curse without cause does not alight.

Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying,
So a curse without cause does not alight.
Proverbs 26:2

I know why the caged bird sings

It's not a carol of joy or glee,
but a prayer that it sends
from its heart's deep core,
a plea that upward to heaven it flings.
I know why the caged bird sings.
Paul Laurence Dunbar

Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Matthew 10: 29-31

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all, Emily Dickinson

Look what I finished last night. I started this the spring of 2007. The girls and I collected feathers on those endless bike rides we took that summer. One day, I found an entire duck's wing. It was very dry and apparently had been there for a long time.

I saved them in a jar. I put a music box on the lid and rusted the lid and music box.

And then, I could not decide how to handle the text. Finally, last night I decided to just do it. This is not the ideal. I wanted to do it differently. However, I needed this to be done and for some reason my gumption for trying a new technique on this project failed me.

  1. I think that you did a fantastic job with it...does the music box on top work?

Ooooh I love that. Reminds me of:

"It's so beautiful that it hurts me," said Anne softly. "Perfect things like that always did hurt
me--I remember I called it `the queer ache' when I was a child. What is the reason that pain like this seems inseparable from perfection? Is it the pain of finality--when we realise that there can be nothing beyond but retrogression?"

"Perhaps," said Owen dreamily, "it is the prisoned infinite in us calling out to its kindred infinite as expressed in that visible perfection."

    Anne's House of Dreams

Sometimes I feel that I almost grasp that heavenly beauty and it just slips through my fingers; all I can do then is think like Paul in Rom 8:23

    You make some lovely things.

    Hugs.

You could've written that post just for me. :) And wanted to say that your cross in the previous post is wonderful, as is your sweet feather bottle.

What amazes me about you is that you take the time to create. I sit and think about it...you inspire me. Continually.

  9. mimi, No the music box doesn't work. In order to make it rusty I had to use some paint and chemicals on it (parts of it were plastic).

sarah, I know exactly what you mean when you say "Sometimes I feel that I almost grasp that heavenly beauty and it just slips through my fingers;"

amy, thanks for stopping by my blog.

melissa, what a lovely compliment coming from you - thank you.

kansasrose, left you my email in the most recent post.

    claire, Wow...thanks.

judy, I am glad you like the paper. I winged it last night. I put them on a plate and sprinkled instant coffee on them and then I took a damp paper towel and crushed the coffee into the paper - it was quite sticky and messy. Then I blew them dry and the middle one started to catch fire. :)
