letters to God

I don't know how many of you read the news report about the letters written to God that were found in the ocean. It is a sad and yet somehow reassuring testimony to me. It is a sad testimony to the falleness of man. Sad that the person who should have read them did not. Sad that someone dumped them in the ocean. Sad because the stories within are sad. Sad that the man who found them is going to profit from them by putting them on Ebay (yet part of me wishes that I could buy them). Sad because the news titles it "Letters to God end up in ocean, unread" and tags it "Unanswered Prayers."

And in that is my reassurance. God read them and the prayers were answered inspite of all the failings of man.

If you wish to read the report click on the title of this post.

  1. That's a terribly sad story, and so strange that they would be sold on ebay....

  2. I'm sure the healing came in writing the letters. Chances are they would not have been read anyway. They probably would have been put on the altar and prayed over and perhaps even were put on the altar and prayed over and then taken back to his home where he kept them until his death.

I feel certain that the intended recipient did receive the letters long before they ever were written down. I can't help wondering about their lives now and if they've found peace. I pray they have.

Thank you for sharing this story. In a way it's heart warming. The only thing that really bothers me about it is the guy putting them on ebay.

  3. I thought the same thing as Lisa said above.. I have been part of church groups/study groups where we have written prayers intended for ourselves and God.. sealed them and then had them blessed... with the understanding noone would read them. I too am saddened by the selling of them on ebay. In one sense, I am sure there is a valuable lesson to be learned from them.. on the other, they are the "remains" of someone's grief/hearts desire/sorrows... they were intended for one recipient only.
