Last Round of Pics from Mexico
On my last morning in Mexico, I got up early and took more photos (we had to leave the resort at 11:45). I took another shot of those fun frogs and then headed for the beach to see the sunrise.
Along the way, I saw these guys who apparently were not on the clock yet.
This guy seemed to be out of place adjusting the deck chairs in his waiting attire.
I have not looked these birds up but they are apparently the Mexican equivalent to our starlings, blackbirds, or crows. They can be loud and obnoxious, however, when they are melodious their warble is particular clear and fluid.
Under these domes are the fabulous buffets. They really are great. The food is excellent and there are many dishes you wouldn't find in a typical American restaurant or buffet. The best part, however, was the cheeses and the fresh fruit (oh and the fresh squeezed grapefruit juice!!).
Later in the day, while we were on the bus on the way to the airport in Cancun, there was an absolute downpour.
These guys who cleaned the beach and raked the sand really fascinated me.
I believe that this is the same father and little girl that I photographed building sand castles on the beach in the preceding set of photos. He was a very attentive father and I took an excessive number of photos of the two because they were so sweet together.
There were more people out early this morning than there were on the preceding morning.
I had noticed that the plovers really liked this section of beach and were quite oblivious to all the people around them even when the beach was full.
At our last breakfast, we found ourselves at the table of our favorite waiter, Daniel. We didn't bring a lot of bills with us so after breakfast I brought a little extra tip back. While I was there another waiter grabbed Daniel and suggested I photograph them.
Daniel is the shy, sweet one on the left. Before we left, he made me a little rose from a paper napkin.
The jaguar (and a feathered serpent) were particularly significant gods to the Mayans so there we many statues of jaguars around the resort. I photographed a few (we always meant to go to the different hotels so I could photograph the different statuary (each hotel had its own theme)) but we never did.
It is always fun to see tiny ones at the beach with their parents - this guy was crabby. But often, the littlest ones are full of wonder.
Yoga on the beach anyone? (wouldn't your clothes fill up with sand?)
In the two photos above and the two below, you see members of our group saying goodbye to the beach.
The scene below was my last shot at the beach. I was walking along when I saw his mannequin head out of the corner of my eye - it startled me at first - making it a good subject for a photo.

My Second Day in Mexico
The next day, I got up early so that I could take morning photography - my experiences in Mexico have taught me that early morning is great for three reasons - the light is stupendous, the staff are busy at fascinating tasks, and the animals are more active or visible.
Isn't this cool - seeds are awesome and I love seeing sprouts. It is the first time I've seen a coconut sprout.
One of the many pools at the resort is listed as a pool for adults only. It is surrounded by these whimsical frog fountains.
My youngest thought is was extremely sad that hubs and I never did anything to warrant even the slightest possibility of need a life preserver. No - we never did go into the water. Not even once. Her response was "That's so sad! I would have been in the water the whole time!!"
Unfortunately, I can't swim and that puts a damper on my love of water.
At seven, the sun had not cleared the horizon and the only tourists who were out were people who were running or swimming for exercise.
The staff are busy with the myriad of jobs that keep a resort pleasant.
The trash that I photographed in the earlier pictures was not found on the beachfront of our hotel. These are the guys who made sure of that.
I found the raking of the beach a particularly interesting chore.
Not only did someone rake the beach but this lady swept the sand off all the chairs.
Apparently, something particularly nasty was spilled here.
As the sun rises above the horizon, guests start moving around.
The lizards start finding sunny rocks.
It is however, still cool of enough that this poor mangled butterfly held still long enough for me to take a photo.
Shadows are lovely when the sun hasn't climbed very high.
Of course, palm leaves themselves are quite fascinating.
Even though, there are plenty of blossoms in Mexico, I seldom take photos of them. The beach is a windy place and good macro photography doesn't work well in the wind.
I am going to show you this shot in color because I found the color combination very modern and startling.
