National Prayer Day

Dear Friends and Family,

On May 7, Christians have the privilege of participating in the National Day of Prayer. If you do not pray for our country daily, now is an opportunity to join with others in prayer. If you wish to find a prayer day event, the National Day of Prayer Task Force has a map that helps individuals locate the nearest event location.

In addition to participating in the National Day of Prayer, consider joining in a special prayer and petition campaign. President Obama's administration has set-up a special website on which they invite Americans to contact them with questions, comments, concerns, or well wishes for the President or his staff. The National Day of Prayer would be an appropriate day for Christians to unite and tell the President that we pray for him and to send him our petitions.

Consider sending the President Obama a prayer expressing your Christian support of him as our elected leader. Or send him a letter expressing your concerns about the well being of our country and what you as a citizen of the United States want from your elected officials.

If Christians unite in prayer, God will respond.

Please send this email to everyone you know who might be interested in letting our government know that Christians care about the decisions our elected officials make and that we pray for our leaders.

Easter, Crafts, Kyler, Friends, and Escapades

On Friday, Grace's best friend came over to play. Here are the three girls dressed up.

My parents came for Easter, while they were here, I had Mom help me pick the finishing touches for the votive candle I was making for her.

Mom brought the Easter dresses and purses that she made for the girls. I fancied up some 1-dollar Target hats to go with the dresses. They also wore the cross necklaces that Mom and I made for them last year.

The girls love to make gingerbread cookies with Mom and Dad so they they made Easter Egg cookies.

My Sister's Update on Kyler

Thanks! Kyler had a cardiology appointment on Wednesday. The praise is that he is gaining weight and the drugs are preventing heart failure. He is now at the monstrous size of 7pds 2oz! He gained enough to not be put into the hospital, but his weight gain is not as fast as they would like. Please continue to pray for his continued growth and that the hole in his heart will close. Thank you to everyone who has been praying! We truly appreciate all of the prayers.

Mom called this afternoon and told me that Kyler had gained another half a pound this week.

Mom and I made two of these burlap baskets this weekend. The girls made the chicks. We brought one basket of chicks to the little boy next door. The other basket ended up being a rather special delivery.

The girls and I make friends at the places we frequently shop. A couple of years ago, it became the habit to take the girls to Dunn Bros once a week. I get a small iced tea, Light gets a small ginger mint lemonade, and Grace gets water.

We are good friends with the store manager, Peggy. Peggy and I share similar interests so on occasion, I've made her small gifts. Before Easter, she made me a gorgeous sugar and frosting Easter Egg. When she gave it to me, Light said we needed to make something for Peggy.

Tuesday, we delivered the basket. Peggy started crying. She shared that her most difficult and hateful customer had just walked out when we walked in. She shared that her father has terminal cancer and that he had unaccountably stopped at the store that morning too.

I told her we would pray for her and her father. Peggy is an unbeliever. Please pray for me as I testify to Peggy. I am not good at testifying to my faith when I am face to face with a person but I want to learn and I want to be there for Peggy.

Finally, the escapade. This morning I went outside to do yard work with Light. After I finished I told her she could stay in the backyard for a little longer (we have an eight-foot privacy fence). I went in and worked on bills. Fifteen minutes later, I went to bring Light in.

She was sitting on the rocks, under our deck, as n@k#d as the day she was born. I asked her why she took off her clothes. I asked if she pottied in them. NO. Did you go p66p in them? NO. Why are you n@k#d? Because I want to be.

I managed not to laugh at her or yell at her. After she retrieved her clothes, we went in and I explained to her why it was unsafe.

I can imagine the balmy 65-degree-Fahrenheit air felt delicious.

princesses and superheros

The princess photos are from a little shoot I did this afternoon, we are taking a trip to Disneyworld in the summer (I know I sound ungrateful at best but I DON't WAN't TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!)

In the past (for trips), I've made the girls coordinating photo t-shirts with legends like pill and stinker on them. This time, I've decided to make princess t-shirts. Grace's will say Princess Rose Red and Light's will say Princess Rose Pink (they photos on the t-shirts will be in color) with the photo of themselves on it. Mine will have a photo of the pair and will say The Queen Mum.

You all will recognize K's cape. However, I finally made four more. Two of them have already gone to their new home at the preschool but they are counterparts to the blue and gold capes you see here. I am pleased - two skirts and two worn out denim shirts equal four capes!!

Grace finally got her cape - the one with the blue heart and the girl's cousin A got his. For the preschool capes, I did a pink heart on the cape like Grace's and I made a lightening bolt on the gold cape.

On Grace's cape, I use the buttonhole placket from each shirt for the ties.

PS Judy will laugh to hear that I kept the cuff's too and I had the same thought she did - wristlets... ;)

this that and the next thing

This is Kyler, the little guy you all have been praying for. Here is at home in Mom's arms - and guess what!! He is gaining weight.

My rusty muffin tin and button wall art is being featured at Etsy.

Hubby uses those disposable face cleansing cloths. I used the container for this basket.

In the realm of extra-Biblical Christian books, I have found three books that have really made a positive impact on how I think about God and my relationship to Him.

My newest find is Living the Lord's Prayer by David Timms. I am not quite ready to try to articulate the power of this book but I want those I know to look for it and read it.

It ranks with My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers and Fearfully and Wonderfully Made by Paul Brand and Phillip Yancey.
